Banking sector join national ceremony to honour eight fallen patriots
Accra, Ghana – August 11, 2025 – The leadership of the Ghana Association of Banks (GAB), together with Managing Directors and senior executives from all 24 member banks, gathered yesterday in solemn unity to honour the memory of the eight distinguished statesmen who tragically lost their lives in the recent helicopter crash.
The eight leaders, whose service and dedication to the Republic of Ghana remain an enduring legacy, were remembered in a dignified ceremony at a wreath-laying ceremony held at the Flagstaff House in Accra. The event brought together senior representatives of member banks.
Proceedings opened by a moment of silence observed by all attendees, follwoed by a short prayer. In his remarks, Mr. Kwamina Asomaning, Managing Director Stanbic Bank and President of the Ghana Association of Banks, conveyed the industry’s deep condolences to the bereaved families and acknowledged the extraordinary contributions of the fallen statesmen to Ghana’s governance, security, and development.
The gathering also provided an opportunity for individual bank leaders to share brief words of tribute, underscoring the values of service, integrity, and patriotism embodied by the deceased.
The Ghana Association of Banks will join the nation in mourning during the official state funeral scheduled for Friday, 15th August 2025. Member banks will be represented at the ceremony, demonstrating the sector’s solidarity with the people of Ghana during this period of national grief.
"We stand together as an industry to honour these heroes who gave their all for our country. Their memory will inspire us to serve with the same dedication and courage," Mr. Awuah said.
